Centenary United Methodist Church
Winston-Salem, North Carolina
Sutton-Kennerly & Associates, Inc. provided engineering design and construction services for renovations
of HVAC system in this 90,000 sq. ft. facility built in 1930. Phase 1
of this project included renovation of heating plant, new boiler,
distribution piping mains for heating water and chilled water, and central
control system. Phase 2 included a new 420-ton central chilled water
plant, tie-in of distribution piping, and renovation of Sanctuary,
Auditorium, Chapel and Office HVAC systems. The chiller plant includes
modular water-cooled chillers, winter cooling with cooling towers, and
provisions for building expansion. |

Arden Presbyterian Church
Arden, North Carolina
Because of
active leaks and water intrusion problems over the past several years, SKA
was commissioned by the Arden Presbyterian Church to perform a condition
survey and assessment of the building envelope of the new sanctuary to
identify deficiencies, potential design flaws, distress or leak sources in
roofing, masonry walls, windows, or where possible, in below-grade
waterproofing, in order to establish remedial measures. Following
completion of this condition assessment, Sutton-Kennerly is preparing
contract documents for the design of corrective measures for the
deficiencies identified. |

Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church
High Point, North Carolina
SKA's Roofing Engineering Group provided roof
design and contract administration services for renovations to the
existing Ludowici interlocking flat clay tile roofing on this building, including tile
replacement, copper sheet metal flashing replacement, lead-coated copper
flat seam roofing, lead-coated copper decorative trim replacement and
replacement of copper gutter, downspouts and collector heads. |

Central United Methodist Church
Mount Airy, North Carolina
SKA's services included investigation and building envelope study, roof design, contract
administration and periodic construction monitoring for conversion of
existing asphalt shingles to standing seam copper roof panels and stucco soffits to vented metal panel soffits
for this facility. The design incorporated a
self-adhering sheet vapor retarder, vented nail base roof insulation,
underlayments and a new standing seam copper roof system complete with new
copper flashings, gutter, collector heads and downspouts. |

Western Carolina
Veterans State Cemetery
Chapel/Administration Building
Black Mountain, North Carolina
Because of extensive water leakage through the roof, windows and walls of
the Chapel/Administration building at the Western Carolina Veterans State
Cemetery, the State Construction Office engaged SKA to conduct a condition
assessment and evaluation of the exterior stone masonry walls, windows and
roof system of this facility. After completion of the investigation and
evaluation, SKA supervised the complete renovation of the building,
including removal and replacement of the steep slope asphalt shingle roof
system, the stone veneer for the exterior walls, custom field-fabricated
windows and all related flashing systems. |
